Export and Import Configuration in Oracle Fusion
When we do the configuration in test system and attain the confirmation post UAT, the next step would be to do the setup all over again to the new instance or say Production Pod. This task used to be very cumbersome and tedious prior to Oracle Cloud.
You can move the functional setup data from one application
instance into another by exporting and importing configuration packages from
the Manage Configuration Packages page in Oracle Fusion Functional Setup
Manager. A configuration package contains the setup import and export
definition. The setup import and export definition is the list of setup tasks
and their associated business objects that identifies the setup data for export
as well as the data itself.
The prerequisites for exporting and importing a
configuration package are:
1.Ensure that both the source application instance and the
target application instance are at the same release level.
2.Identify the implementation project used to enter and
define the functional setup data in the source application instance. An
implementation project is the list of setup tasks that you need to complete to
implement selected offerings and options.
To move the functional setup data from the source application
instance to the target application instance, follow the procedures in the
following tasks:
v
Task 1, “Export Functional Setup Data from the
Source”
v
Task 2, “Import Functional Setup Data on the
Target”
v
Task 3, “Complete Post-Movement Tasks
Task 1 Export Functional Setup Data from the Source
To export the functional setup data from the source
application instance:
1.Login to Oracle Fusion Functional Setup Manager in the
source application instance and go to the Manage Configuration Packages page.
Select the Implementation Project
Click on “Yes”
Select the objects to be exported and click on Next
Either Schedule or run the scheduled process.
You can export a configuration package after you
create it, or at any point in time in the future. During export, appropriate
setup data is identified based on the setup export definition and added to the
configuration package. You can download the configuration package after the
export is completed.
The status of the export process is displayed after you
submit the export request and is updated after the export is completed. You can
click the status to view the detailed results, including all the business
objects processed and the corresponding errors, if any. You can also view or
download the setup data report that contains all the setup data exported to the
configuration package.
Download the Configuration Package as shown below:
Task2 Import Functional Setup Data on the Target Instance
To import the functional setup data on the target
application instance:
1.Transport the configuration package from the source
application instance to the target application instance.
2.Login to Oracle Fusion Functional Setup Manager in the
target application instance and go to the Manage Configuration Packages page.
3.Import –Upload the configuration package. After the upload
is completed, select the uploaded configuration package and start importing.
The setup import process inserts all new data from the configuration package
that does not already exist and updates any existing data with changes from the
source instance. No data is deleted. Setup data that exists in the target
instance but not in the source instance remains unchanged.
Import Process
Once you are logged in to the target instance, navigate to
Setup and maintenance page and click on Actions->Import->Create New
Browse and select the configuration file to be imported and
Select items under Import Options if you want and then click on Submit.
The system then directs you to see Import page with the
actions to be take, if any for manual processes.
Click on each task to manually complete them.
Once you are done with the manual tasks/Processes, click on Resume
and then Yes.
As we had selected the Compare Setup data prior to
Import under Import Options, the system then compares the
setup between Source and Target Pods.
After comparing process is completed, the status changes to Ready
to Download
Review the stage and perform the post migration tasks, if
any. Click on Done to
complete the process.
As
we can see in the above screenshot that the status is Completed
Successfully and Completed with Errors is 0. So we are
good to go with that.
This Ends the process of exporting the setup data from one
Pod and Importing it to another one. If it requires any post import tasks like
user creation, roles assignments and indicated in the report, do perform the same.
